Jura hikes

Image
The Jura is 15 minutes away from my home and I go there often, especialy in mid-season (march, april, november) when there is still snow on the Alps. I already published several specific Jura hikes : Le Chasseron Chasseral Mont Tendre Gorges de l'Orbe In this post I collect a few I do less often and I have less memory about. This post also features the only hikes I did in Canton Solothurn and in Canton Jura! Gorges Areuse  (Neuchâtel) Start point :  Champs du Moulin, 610m Destination : Noiraigues, 730m Highest point : Destination Distance : ~4.5 km one way Elevation gain : ~130 m Time : ~6-7h Difficulty : Moderate to challenging Download GPS file You can do this hike in several lengths. Even starting all the way in Boudry it becomes quite long. The best part is the one between Champ du Moulin, where you can park near the Reataurant La Truite, and Noirague where the actual gorges sit. The rest is just a stoll along the river. I don't remember much of it except that it is very g...

Cabane de Moiry

Image
Overview Start point : Barrage de Moiry (2,110 m) Highest point : Cabane de Moiry (2,825 m) Distance : Approx. 11 km round trip Elevation gain : ~700 m Hiking time : ~4–5 hours round trip Difficulty : Moderate Download GPS file This hike starts at the Barrage de Moiry , located at the end of one of the branches of Val d'Anniviers . The lower parking lot at the base of the dam is already at an impressive altitude of 2,110 meters . There is a second parking lot at the top of the dam at around 2,250 meters , but it’s often closed to vehicles. From the lower parking, a trail zigzags up the mountainside and leads you to the top of the dam in about 20 minutes . Take a moment to walk across the dam—it's massive and offers a dramatic view down its vertical drop from the center. From here, the trail follows the left bank of the Lac de Moiry , an artificial lake with a surreal turquoise color that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding landscape. After a few hundre...

Cadini di Misurina

Image
Overview Starting Point:  Col de Varda, Misurina (2,100 m) Path: Sentiero Bonacossa ("equipped path" with some ropes and cables) Ending Point: Rifugio Auronzo (2,320 m) Estimated Time: 5–6 hours Difficulty: Moderate to demanding; some exposed sections with metal cables (via ferrata kit recommended for safety) Return Options: Bus to Misurina (recommended) Hike back down (about 1.5 hours) Download GPS file The Story This hike I remember well, although I didn’t organize it—my father did. And when I don’t plan a hike myself, I often have a harder time remembering all the details! Anyway, it starts in Misurina and ends at Rifugio Auronzo — the same place where the famous Tre Cime tour begins. Along the way, we cross rocky valleys, narrow rock ledges, and pass by the stunning Cadini di Misurina — surely one of the top 10 most Instagrammed spots in the Dolomites. We started in Misurina (1,750 m) . Since it was August, the town was packed, with cars park...

The forgotten ones (Zentral Schweiz)

Image
Here a new forgotten hikes post! This time in central Switzerland. Rigi (Schwyz) Start point :  Alpenhof parking near Küssnacht, 550m Destination : Loop to the start Highest point : Rigi Kulm, 1797m Distance : ~15 km loop Elevation gain : ~1200 m Time : ~6-7h Difficulty : Moderate to challenging Download GPS file Rigi (1797m) is a very famous summit in Central Switzerland. Super easy to each because you can also get there by train from Viznau (but we are stubborn and we did it on foot). It was a long time ago and I remember little about the hike but you find the path in the age and link. There are several ways you can take we decided for a circular one. The highlights were of course the ridge at the summit but even more a viewpoint names Ch ä nzeli on the way back overlooking the 4 canton lake! Rütli (Uri) Start point :  Rütli dock, 450m Destination : Bauen, 450m Highest point : Seelisberg, 860m Distance : ~7.5 km Elevation gain : ~475 m up and down Time : ~2.5h Difficulty : E...
